Climate

 
 

September is early autumn and the temperatures range from 11 to 20 degrees Celsius. It can be rainy and windy. For further information on climate see www.meteoswiss.ch



 

Electricity

 
 

The current used throughout Switzerland is 230 Volts (AC), 50 Hertz. Most power sockets are designed for three pin round plugs. The standard continental type plug with two round pins, applied for many electrical travel products, may be used without problem. Adaptors are available in most hotels.



 

Mobile/Cellular phones

 
 

Before setting off, check that your mobile phone is activated for use abroad. Travellers from USA and Japan: Using your cellular phone in Switzerland requires a triband device which works on both American and European networks.



 

Banking/Currency

 
 

Decimal currency is used in Switzerland with the Swiss Franc (CHF) as the basic unit (100 Rappen = 1 Swiss Franc). Notes come in 200 CHF, 100 CHF, 50 CHF, 20 CHF and 10 CHF. Coins come in 5 Rappen, 10 Rappen, 20 Rappen, 50 Rappen, 1 CHF, 2 CHF and 5 CHF.

Currency exchange facilities are available in most banks, hotels, and airports and operate normal business hours. Credit cards are accepted at most restaurants and shops, the most widely used being MasterCard and Visa.



 

Business hours

 
 

Banks are generally open from 08.30 - 16.30h Monday - Friday. Many banks have automated teller machines (ATMs) that accept overseas bank cards. Post office hours are 08.00 - 12.00h and 14.00 - 17.00h Monday - Friday.
Shops in smaller towns and villages are generally open from 08.30 - 12.00h and again from 14.00 - 18.30h. In larger cities they do not close for lunch and generally extend their hours till 20.00h on one evening of the week, usually on Thursdays.



 

Getting Around

 
 

As a conference participant you have free use of the public bus services in Villeneuve-Montreux-Vevey (VMCV) for the three days of the conference. Your conference badge doubles as your bus ticket.
