Detailed programme

Tour 1 —Pierre Gianadda Foundation in Martigny

Wednesday, 14 September 2005
13.30 — 17.30 hrs
Price: CHF 115 (Euro 74) per person

The renowned Pierre Gianadda Foundation is built around the remains of a Celtic temple and houses a variety of unique exhibitions. In September for example, the foundation will present a special exhibition entitled “French Paintings” from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. We shall be pleased to give you a guided tour of these works.

Another exhibition displays works by acclaimed artists such as Cézanne, van Gogh and Picasso. The oldest Gallo-Roman archaeological exhibition in Switzerland takes you back to the country’s fascinating past. The International Automobile Museum, with more than 50 vintage vehicles dating from 1897 to 1939, is a must-see for the more technically-minded. The outdoor sculpture exhibition can be ideally combined with a stroll through the park gardens, where refreshments are available.

Tour 2 — Geneva/Yvoire

Thursday, 15 September 2005
08.30 — 17.30 hrs
Price: CHF 160 (EURO 103) per person

Geneva, the smallest metropolis in Switzerland, is called the "Capital of Peace". The city not only hosts the headquarters of UNO and the International Red Cross, but is also a cultural melting pot. This is a small cosmopolitan city in a stunning scenic setting. A city tour takes you past the UNO headquarters and Geneva’s landmark - the famous 140-metre-high fountain in the bay of Lake Geneva - and then past impressive well-maintained parkland. You discover more of the city’s history on a tour though Geneva’s old town. A bus ride takes you to picturesque Yvoire on the French side of the lake. After enjoying typical French crêpes, you can explore the medieval alleyways, stroll by the lake or perhaps visit the “Garden of Five Senses”, an amazing maze that stimulates the senses. You then return to the Swiss side of the lake by boat and back to Montreux by bus.

Tour 3 — Back to the Middle Ages

Friday, 16 September 2005
08.30 — 18.00 hrs
Price: CHF 165.00 (EURO 106) per person

Romont, Fribourg and Bern: these three pearls of the Middle Ages combine history, cultural gems and a modern lifestyle. In tiny Romont you visit the collegiate church with its famous 15th-century stained-glass windows, stroll through lanes steeped in history and enjoy a coffee break and local delicacies in the inner courtyard of the castle. In Fribourg, the “cultural bridge” town between the French and German-speaking regions of Switzerland, an electric train takes you past some of the most magnificent examples of medieval architecture in Europe. Lunch is served at a typical local restaurant in the “Basse Ville” area of town, before you continue on to the Swiss capital of Bern. The old town is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It boasts one of the most celebrated and charming shopping streets in Switzerland, lined on both sides with arcades full of delightfully diverse boutiques to explore. So the rest of the afternoon is reserved for relaxing strolls and top shopping!

Tour 4 — Gruyere Region

Saturday, 17 September 2005
08.30 — 17.00 hrs
Price CHF 170 (EURO 110) per person

Discover classic picture-postcard Switzerland! A panorama train takes you past rolling hills, lush green pastures, traditional wooden chalets and the stately summits separating the mountainous Gruyere region from Lake Geneva. You learn the secret of Swiss cheesemaking in a typical dairy in Moléson. After a coffee break, you visit the tiny village of Gruyere, home of the cheese of the same name. You can breathe in a little history at the 17th-century castle before the appetizing aroma of melted cheese invites you to lunch. You savour a famous Swiss speciality — fondue or raclette - served in a typical Swiss chalet. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish in Gruyere before taking the superb scenic route back to Montreux.
